Where We Catch
There's a crack across the table
Where the winter pulled it wide
I can trace it with my finger
Feel the years it holds inside
We could sand away the edges
Make the surface clean and new
But every line across the timber
Lets another pattern through
I've spent years correcting angles
Hiding everything that strayed
As if somehow being seamless
Was the shape I had to take
But the things that stay with me
Were never flawless, never planned
A trembling voice
An awkward silence
The pressure of a hand
Maybe I don't grow
Where everything is smooth
Maybe I catch
On the edges
Maybe that's
Where my roots break through
Your edges meet my edges
Neither settling into one
Coming alive where they differ
Shaping what we each become
I don't want us to be seamless
I don't want the edges gone
Leave a little space between us
For what we can't create as one
Maybe we don't thrive
Where everything is smooth
Let our edges latch together
Let them lead us somewhere new
Releases
